Beyer MC740 & AKG C535

I have been avidly following all the discussions on mics for indoors. So far I have been using either my cardioid C535 or my MC740. Sometime I use a Countryman B3. Obviously each has a different sound and application - depending actual acoustics and set-up of the shot.
The MC740 is a large, high quality studio condenser with 5 pick-up patterns - including hyper. The sound from the hyper setting is great (going through my SD302 into a Greg Winter mod'd VX2100..).. BUT the mic is relativley delicate so I find myself often using the C535 instead. The AKG has a pleasant upper mid boost (as it's really a vocalist's mic), but I find the std cardioid pattern picks up just a little too much room sound.
I have always been pleased with AKG mics (especially the C451 cardiod); I saw a couple of posts where someone was singing the praise of the AKG C480/CK63 & also the somewhat lowlier 300/CK93.
My question is this: as I like the cleaner, more directional sound that the hyper gives, - to get a comparable result to the MC740's sound, will I be looking at the Schoeps CMC641.? My gut tells me that if I can get the budget together, then I should bite the bullet...
Thoughts? Anyone else used the Beyer?
Regards, Ross.
