Portable stereo recording device (192kHz/24-bit?) under $500?
 

looking for a small/portable audio-ONLY recording device that accepts mic inputs. i don't mind if the medium, as long as it's 192kHz/24-bit. is it possible to record that with under $500 budget?

i remembered i used to have a sony walkman that records very nice stereo audio =).

i need it to collect sound for buildup soundtracks for me movies =).

i know it's kinda' m00t cause it's marginally better but are there mobile devices that can record 192kHz/24-bit?

Is your recording environment so free of noise and you microphone so good that you will benefit from a 192Khz sampling rate?

the application is that capturing sound outside. and the microphone will depend on application. just wondering if it was a technical possibility. and as i stated, i realize it'll be marginally better, just wonderin' if it was available.

I've read previously that the Microtrack doesn't have a high enough s/n ratio to make 24 bit recording worthwhile. Is it something you'd use for this?

Not using it as a pre, no. But fed from a decent preamp, it sounds very good. It gets a much worse rap than it should. For a taper, wanting to carry as little as possible, I can understand why the noise is an issue, because they're dealing with just a mic and the Micro. That's not always an ideal scenario for sure.

so, with that in mind (just the device+mic) what other devices do ya'll recommend for the choosing?

Not to mention anything above 96 is pushing it as far as it adding any value, but we could get into a hugely theoretical debate about that.
