earpiece headphones
 

Any advice on in-ear headphones of good quality. I own the Sony-MDR 7506 and am pleased with those, but I need something smaller for field applications.

Etymotic ER 6 or ER 4. Hard to beat, they are old stand-bys for me. I've even done near-masters with them; they're very accurate and flat. Be sure to not purchase the "i" models, as they have enhanced bass for iPods.

Those look great. Thanks for the reply. Just to cover my bases, would you be able to suggest anything that's comparable in price to the 7506s. However, I know that in this business, you often get what you pay for.

I Use these... pretty grunty for such a small size..
112db SPL so distrortion is very VERY minimal and only at stupidly loud volumes.. nice and flat across all freq's cant fault them for 80AUD...

Shure makes some absolutely fantastic in-ears.

Another thumbs up for the etymotic's. I have the ER4P's I think they are. They have lower impedence so smaller devices can drive them easier than the S version. You can easily make critical decisions, even on a subway, with these puppies.

if you plan on using any of these in ear units, you might want to go and have custom ear molds made. They will feel betterover a longer day. wil actually block out unwanted sounds better, and you won't have to worry about someone taking them from you. Find an audiologist in your area. and for about 50.00 for the fitting fee, they can make custom molds that will fit quite a wide variety of ear buds. Some of these guys even sell the nicer phones.
