military text sound

I'm looking for a sound effect that sound like when the text reads in at the beginning of hunt for red october or the beginning of JAG on cbs

OK perhaps not many people know about the following website, but it is truly an outstanding resource for when you need sound FX. It is called http://www.sounddogs.com.

Do a keyword search for "teletype".

Thanks Don

Don...you are the man! I have been looking for this particular sound for a week. Thanks for your quick response.

And thanks to DVinfo for such a great resource!

Are you taling about a teletype or cypher machine?

Hans Henrik Bang April 2nd, 2003 06:49 AM

It is really neither. It is a "movie logic" sound like spaceships in starwars saying "whooosh" when they fly by. In movies computers always write slowly across the screen, and make sounds when they do so :-)

In Hunt for red October it is sort of a high pitched beeping sound that comes with each letter.

So ya know where I can find it? The one on sounddogs was close but not quite right

I can't remember the exact sound in Red October, but a common sound used in movies is radioteletype.

Is this the sound?

No, that's not it.

Go back to sound dogs, a couple of the soundbytes in the conputer section under computer telemetry readout, down towards the bottom, sound really close.

Phil Reams April 2nd, 2003 06:22 PM

Darn.

I'm renting the movie tonight. I like a challenge! :-)

I'm certain someone here will come up with it...

These ones on "Findsounds" may be useful if you loop/edit them a bit.

Kevin,

I've been looking for that same sound forever...I can't believe it's so hard to find since so many movies use it now. Practically every military or sci-fi flick that has text printed across the screen uses it.

I'll let you know if I find it...
