Need adapter for wirelss lav mic to make it wireable.
 

I just bought the Evolution 100 unit (ew101p I think my one is) with the ME2 omni lav mic. It's working fine, I would just be keen on being able to use that lav mic wired along balanced XLR cables when I need to. Anyone here done this, or know of a source for making one of these things? It requires 2 parts.

1) Conversion from unbalanced 3.5mm jack to balanced XLR.

2) Powering of the mic (It's a condenser mic)

Any help appreciated, or else I'll have to go buy another lav...

I did ring the NZ distributor of Sennheiser stuff and he looked into it, getting back to me with a "No, they don't sell anything for that job"

Yes, I think it would be a little tough to do. Getting the voltage right for the mic would be difficult indeed.

The second important thing is not to spend too much money trying to do this. MKE2 is a very good mic, however, you might be able to buy another for almost the same money and save yourself a lot of trouble. Further it might be more reliable too.

You will be a lot better off just buying a seperate XLR lav. It will be cheaper and a lot less of a headache then what you are trying

Thanks guys, yeah I've come to that conclusion. You know I really would have thought someone would make a simple adapter for this sort of things. I mean even 2 adapter and daisy chain them, but oh well.

The good news is that you can use other mics with the bodypack transmitter. That's real handy when you do not want to use a lav wirelessly.

Nathan, you can? Do you have any experience with this and if so what mics have worked for you? It seems the wired lavs come with their own power anyway, and often balanced XLR so I assume those are out of the question.

Well I meant lav, period. I use a Shure hand mic with a short mic cable with an XLR to phono adapter. It works just fine.

Speaking of handmics, I'm thinking of adding one to my kit and would use it next week to capture sound from workshops that I'm shooting - sort of like a plant mic to get the best sound I can from the area where people are speaking. Do you have any recommendations for omni hand mics (I'll put it on a stand) that fall within the league/price of the ME66 and Evo 100?

I'm not sure what I would recommend. Probably what would be best is using a soundman to direct a shotgun towards the speaker if they are not remaining near the mic position. Other hand mic makes includes Sennheiser which has a version that works with Evolution 100.

I would suggest starting a new thread about this.

Thanks Nathan. I'm going to ditch the idea of a converter and get another omni. I have a few possible options and I think that I might go with an ME62 to attach to my K6 module.

take a look over at sound emporium

i use audio technica wireless . they use TA5 connections.
soundE does make a power supply for lavs that use TA5 connectors ... don't know what your's have BUT perhaps they make a adaptor ???
