Rode SM5 Shockmount Question

I'm just wondering which end of the shockmount is meant to slide into the Sony clamp. One end has a smaller diameter than the other.

Is one end for Sony clamps and the other for Panasonic clamps? I found the thicker is a tight fit but I wanted to make sure it wasn't forcing it too much when screwing it in. However the other end (the smaller diameter) seems a bit loose and the weight of my mic brings the whole thing down.

There weren't really any instructions that came with it (presumably because any dummy could figure it out) but I just wanted to make sure I was setting this up correctly.

Any ideas?

Could anyone using the SM5 comment? Even if it's a dumb question, I'm really curious whether or not I'm forcing the mic mount too much by trying to screw it into the fatter side. I think the V1U diameter is the same as the Z1U/A1U/PD170/etc... Surely there's some SM5 users around here?

Craig, I have a Z1U and yes I had the same problem. I ended up initially using the fat end, but have since glued small amounts of rubber onto the thin end and now use it that way. Seems to work slightly better, and I dont have to worry about breaking the fitting any more.

All the best,
