Mic for HV20
 

I have a HV20 on order. I Hope to have it in time for a family wedding. I'd like to also pick up a external mic. I am not going to use it for the actual wedding, but for some of our family "festivities" before hand. I am expecting to use it indoors, in your average sized rooms, over stuffed with people. Plenty of noise ect. What is a safe all around mic? I have looked at the Rode NT-2 as my first choice? Will this be a decent "all-around" mic or should I try something else? I dont have a large budget to get multiple mics. Am I off base?

Did you drop a 'G' there? The Rode NT2a is a large diaphgram studio mic that would not be at all suitable for most location recording situations such as your family events. The Rode NTG-2 is a shotgun mic. It's a mono mic with an XLR output and you'll need an adapter to a 3.5mm miniplug such as the one by Rode to use it with your camera. You might be better off with the Rode Stereo Videomic. With either one you'll also need some way to mount it to the camera and after a quick glance it looks like that might be a bit problematic. Another alternative would be a boom pole and mount but now you need someone working with you to handle the mic. But hand holding the naked mic wouldn't work very well.
