It's real easy to get stuff into a portable MD recorder. But the only way out is analog unless you are using one of Sony's high-end models.

However, I've asked about MD analog quality on a number of forums and always gotten the same answer -- no problem. I was surprised to learn how many wedding videographers use the portables for backup.
