Wireless for XL2

Can someone share what is a good wireless mic' system for this camera. Would like a dual camera mounted receiver.

Hi Matthew,

I use the Sennheiser Evolution G2 100 (ENG) series wireless. Works like a charm. I velcro the receivers to my Anton Bauer battery on the back of my camera.

See them at Sennheiser's website or at B&H. I'd recommend getting the ones with the omnidirectional mics, but it all depends on how you're going to use them.

Matthew,

I would avoid the azden uhf. I have one and I am not overly impressed with it!! I will be moving to higher end stuff for the future!! Wishing I had more cash in hand when I needed one!

Hi Dale,
I recently went on the hunt for wireless for my XL2 and ended up buying a couple of used Lectrosonics on ebay. Up to this point they have worked flawlessly. I also have a micron system that I'm happy with. If you do a search through the audio forum, you'll find plenty of good advice.

Thanks everyone for the info. I'll take your advice. I'm doing some interviews where I need two people mic'd and feeding into my receiver on camera. Mostly seminar type stuff and some documentary work where I'm needing to mic' someone. Have just purchased one Cannon XL 2 and have ordered one more.
I live in Montana and will be riding my horse back into the mountains. The scenery is breathtaking. I'm shopping now for an affordable steadcam. Yikes...LOL. I'm setting up a base for the the steadcam on a pack on my pack mule. With the remote I'm hoping for some goods shots with a 3X - lens.
I'm new to this site and learning my way around. I just stumbled on the site and what a wealth of info. I seem to struggle more with the audio setups. Thanks again for the info.

I used a Sennheiser G2 (with an addl plug to turn a handheld mic into wireless) on my XL2 for two years. Now I use it on my XLH1. Excellent sytem for the money and pretty good sound.

Hi Matthew,

The Lectrosonics are top of the line if you can afford them, yet many of us have found the Sennheiser G2 also work great. And if you get the Senn with the ME4 (instead of the ME2) or another better microphone, the sound is great. Some time ago I did a series of informal tests to see how various Sennheiser G2s worked at various distances and frequencies (as well with and without diversity receivers). If you're interested in listening to the test, see:

I also use the G2 system and really like it. I was on a shoot with a different wirless system the other day, and really missed the meter display that the G2 has... it not only tells you that the receiver is in fact receiving a signal, but at what strength. The G2 is very easy to use. I did switch out the stock mic it came with for a TRAM 50 though. Sounds great!

Thanks

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go with the G 2 system and upgrade the Mic.
