AT U100 Wireless Problem

Just got a AT Reciever and Plug in Transmitter and cant get good levels from it. I get clipping on peaks or when adjusted for the clipping, get way low audio. I am trying to set up a wireless boom. I am wondering if I have to send the unit back and pony up the money for something like a Lectrosonics. Please advise if I am doing anything wrong.

Setup: Sennhiser 416 to Sound Design Mix Pre to Audio Technica ATW-T102 plug in transmitter to Audio Technica ATW-R100 Reciever to Sony PD-170.

Prior to adding the wireless equiptment, the levels from the mix pre to the pd170 were normalized. 0db at mixer = -20 at pd170. Limiter engaged after setting levels. Everything sounds crystal clear, even with peaks.

Added wireless into the loop. Set output of the plugin transmitter so that clip light on reciever does not light with loud peaks from speaking. Set output of reciever to max. Sounds ok, but audio is low. Also the peaks now distort.

Tried bypassing the mixer and put the plug-in direct to another mic (battery powered) and i have the same problem.

Is it the wireless system or what?

You might want to get in contact with AT's tech support.

They've been extremely helpful whenever I had any questions.

What, mostly. The MixPre XLR outs are LINE level.

The Plug on AT 100 expects MIC level.

Got it?

Of course he is saying he has the problem without the mixer and using another mic. Are you sure the problem is the same with and without the mixer? Is there an input setting on the transmitter? if the input is set too low you will probably have a noisy signal. The output of the receiver could be set wrong (Mic/Line) and causing some of the issues at the camera. Try sending the wireless into the Mix Pre and listen to how it sounds. Once you have it working well then try sending it to the camera.

Thanks Ty! Got it. I need to pad the level into the plug in transmitter. Will try when i get to work.
