Importing Fostex FR2 files into FCP?
 

I recently directed a short film. My sound recordist,
Josh, recorded location sound using a Fostex FR2. This
unit, as you may know, records directly onto cards.

Josh transferred the files from the card onto my
Firewire drive. As a result, I now have 3 folders on
my Firewire drive named "Audio Day 1", "Audio Day 2",
and "Audio Day 3".

Each folder contains a number of .wav files.

When I import these .wav files into Final Cut Pro (I'm
running version 5.0.4) using File/Import/Files..., the
clips show up in the broswer, and they sound fine.

The problem is, Josh said that he recorded the boom
mike sound onto the left channel, and the lavalier
mike sound onto the right channel.

The imported files appear to contain only one track
("1A" appears under "Tracks" in the browser for these
files). It sounds like just the lavalier mike track.

Does anyone have any idea how I can separate the boom track
from the lavalier track?

I've been tearing my hair out over this, and would be
extremely grateful for any advice.

If the wav files are stereo, they should import into FCP as files with two linked channels. If you still can't locate the second channel, try opening a file with Soundtrack, or another audio program, to see if you actually have two channels present (I like Amadeus Pro as an inexpensive audio editor and it comes with a free trial).
