Back up Audio?
 

Hello everyone! I'm new here and new to videography. I've been doing alot of research and studying alot about all this, I am expanding my own business shooting wedding and commercials.

I have a question that I hope somebody can guide me though clearly. I have a few weddings coming up and I'm really nervous about the first one (first one is always the hard one) I got the camera (sony vx2100) and wireless lapel mic. But i'm still worried if I should get back up audio (alot of people say they record onto a mini disc??? would that be from a lapel on the groom or could I somehow get back up audio through the control booth (church system?) and what kind of media should i record on?

I'm starting out with one camera and I dont want to miss important moments or Important moments might sound a little bad but with back up audio I dont have to worry too much about it.

Any tips would be really great. I've search this forum for a long time and couldn't find exactly what i need.

There are plenty of inexpensive audio recording devices out there, but I would highly recommend a second camera before purchasing a backup audio recording device. Unless you've gone to the rehearsals and have confidence in a clear straight shot, I would suggest investing in a 1 chip Canon ZR or similar just to place on a tripod unmanned and shooting wide. You never know when your angle is going to get blocked. The 2nd camera can also act as your back audio recording device. The question is, how can you get high quality audio to the backup camera.

1. Use a BeachTek or similiar XLR adapter and run an out from house sound.
2. If no house sound (every venue is different, be prepared), can you do a hard wired mic with long enough cables that won't be obtrusive?
3. Is there budget for a second wireless?
