handheld?

**I just posted this in the Letus forum by accident. I really meant to place it in the Alternative Imagine Methods area. Feel free to delete the original posting under the Letus forum**

I've recently become very interested in putting together a 35mm adaptor + HV20 kit for wedding work but I notice that most of the footage I've been seeing is shot from tripods. I understand the reason for this, but was wondering how feasible it is to shoot either the Letus Extreme or the Brevis handheld or shoulder mounted. I was thinking of shooting this type of setup with a 50mm Nikon lens, or I could go with a 35mm lens if you guys think the 50mm would be too hard to pull focus on while in full run & gun mode.
Someone tell me I'm crazy and talk me out of it.

Also, can I attach a shoulder pad to the Cinevate rails or Indie rails? Does someone make a "quick release" shoulder pad so I can easily go from shoulder mounted back to tripod and back again if the need arises?

I have a million other questions, but I'll start with these.

M2 + H1

I do a lot of hand held work with my M2 and a Canon H1. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a G1 instead just because of the size. The H1 tends to be a bit much to manhandle, but I manage.

I think if your quick, and you practice a bit on feeling out your follow focus, and have a good understanding of the DOF of your 50mm lens, you could do "run & gun" shooting with an M2 (or any other 35mm adapture for that matter), and you would have amazingly beautiful wedding footage!

I use a Cavision Shoulder mount & Pistol Grips that fit perfectly on Redrocks rails. I don't, however, use a quick release so I have to adjust the setup a bit in order to mount it on a tripod.

All that to say, I think you'll be fine!

Hope that helps.

Tim,
Thanks for your response. Pistol grips... see these are the things I'm not thinking of. This is why I love being able to ask the people who've already used these things.

I can see how the H1 plus the Redrock can be pretty large. I'm trying to put together a compact/inexpensive kit, so that's why I was thinking the Letus or Brevis + hv20. In a perfect world, I'd love something I could mount to my Merlin, but weight and focus are the 2 major problems I see there.

Anyone else have some suggestions for gear/setup that I'm not currently thinking of?
