Letus Extreme and Sony EX1 test short

One click thing, I didn't zoom in enough a few times on the GG, any slight vignettes are either because of that, or done in grading. Nothing to do with the issue some owners are having with their EX1.

Three first shots are clean, without the Letus, as I was planning to do lots of clean tests too, but the more I used the Letus the more I couldn't take it off!

Update: Just noticed a flash frame. How crap is that? Will fix it and re-upload it!

Looks good. whats with the edge softness? looks like things get extremely soft toward both the left and right edges of the frame on all of the letus shots. is it always like that? i imagine ive seen letus extreme shots without that issue, so perhaps the ground glass was just not flat or calibrated correctly? its even on the wide shots where everything else is in focus. also, how did you do those shots where only the subject's eyes are in focus? almost looks like a lens tilt effect or something.

could you tell us how you achieve a so good looking "slow shutter mode" ?
I had a try last night, and it was way less smooth than your.
What recording frame rate ? what slow shutter setting ?

On which short do you mean, Kew or Piccadiily?

All the ice skating is 60fps, the other slow mo stuff is shot normal speed then slowed down with twixtor pro FCP plug in.

Do you mean slow shutter or overcrank?

If you mean slow shutter for stuff like timelapse I struggle to get a really sharp image, can't work out why. The F350 is pin sharp using slow shutter but the EX1 is much softer. No obvious reason I can think of...

In Piccadilly, the accelerated shoot with car traffic. it is the second sequence, but there is another near the end.
Is it slow shutter mode ? what is the shutter speed ? frame speed ?
Or you did this afterward in FinalCut ?

I tried the "slow shutter" mode of the EX1, and whatedever you set it, 16, 32 or 64 accumulated frames, it is not smooth and I can't understand how to use it.
I got better results with a slow shutter set to 8, but 8 is a little bit too low...

Once again you got beautifull pictures. Great job. I hope to get something similar to you at the Pere Lachaise cemetry in Paris soon :)

Yes. When using slow shutter on interval make sure the interval is at least 1 frame every 2 seconds. If you do it every 1 second you get the jerky effect.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your setting. The slow shutter mode can only be set to 16, 32 or 64 accumulated frames.

I'm shooting 1080i 25p. What should be the setting ?
I'll have to play more with it.

no, i just set the slow shutter on. That may be the solution. I'll try it soon. Thanks for the tip.

yes. slow shutter without interval recording will be unusable. Make sure it is set to 1 frame every 2 seconds or more. not 1 frame every 1 second as that will still be jerky on 32 and 64

Ok. Done a new short to test out my shift/ tilt lenses. 80% was done using the 65mm and 85mm Hartblei lenses. Go to my blog at www.philipbloom.co.uk and read all about it and see the film.

I thoroughly recommend these lenses. Obviously in the future I won't use them for every shot. This was after all a test, and a very succesful one it was too!
