i wonder if it uses ROI or binning (cropped field of view or same fov) to achieve this. It is really nice that they included this feature, but technically it doesnt seem so impressive. 1200fps at 336x96 works out to a pixel rate of about 39MP per second. an altasens sensor like the the SI-2k or the new sumix support pixel rates of around 150MP/s (although datarate is usually the limiting factor) which is nearly 4x as fast, meaning 4x faster framerates or 4x higher resolution assuming the function is supported in software and the data interface. even my hv20 has twice the pixel rate and costs less, but of course what use is that without supporting variable frame rates (besides 60i and 24p)?

in a consumer still camera form factor this is still pretty cool, although it is likely to have some serious rolling shutter artifacting and other issues that are common to video features in still cameras (poor latitude, no image control, auto exposure only etc) although that is of course speculation till see a real review of the camera..
