Do my camera skills suck or is this pretty common?

Just got my LEX on saturday and I totally love it. I've noticed though that any kind of camera movement, especially handheld, is a lot jumpier, and I'm guessing that's cause I have my a1 zoomed in a little over 3/4 of the max zoom. Anyway, it's not a big deal, but I'm wondering if anyone's used the LEX on a DIY or lower budget steadicam and what kind of success they've had.

W/r/t to using the LEX/XHA1 combo handheld: Has anyone gotten comfortable with this? I'd imagine you'd need a shoulder mount...

Hi Matt.................

Er, sorry if I come across as a bit obtuse, but what's a "Lex" when it's at home?

Can't comment on anything else till 've cleared that one up, tho' would have to say, off the top of my head - er, Canon XH A1, 75% zoom, handheld?

And the best of British luck to you chum! Jumpy isn't quite how I'd describe the effect but it's getting there.

did you shut off the steady shot at you'r camera?

Here's a free camera skill: never use zoom if your camera is not on a tripod. ;)

Hey Matt, does the shake appear less apparent the wider the lens you use?

Matt McLain April 3rd, 2008 09:06 PM

Well, I've only got a nikon 28mm lens so far, but the shake is fairly apparent with that. On a tripod its perfectly balanced. I'm guessing I'll need a shoulder mount like the dvrigpro or something to use it effectively handheld. I should have a 50mm lens arriving in the mail today and as soon as I get that I'll see if its any worse.

I think he means a Letus Extreme.
