Letus and a Cheap Lens

Having read several posts where people with a Letus talk about using one of their old, cheap 35mm lenses -- and yet still getting good results -- I got motivated to dig around in the closet for my old Pentax K1000 which had an old Tokina 28-200mm f/3.5 wide angle telephoto zoom lens attached to it from its last use back in the mid-90s. I had purchased the Pentax K mount primarily to use my good Pentax 50mm lens, and I never really considered the possibility of using the Tokina.

So, I slapped the thing on -- it must weight a couple pounds or so -- and hefted the rig out to my truck and went for a drive this afternoon shooting this, that, and the other. When I got back home and starting tinkering in the editor, I decided that I just might find myself using the cheap lens after all. Yeah, there's a few points along the focal length where it looks like a cheap lens, but by and large I think the effect of the ground glass tends to mask some of the imperfections in the lens.

My Canon 85mm f/1.2 L arrives Wednesday, and then we'll see what the Letus looks like with a really fine prime lens.

Anyway, here's some more Letus footage for people to look at -- shot with nothing but a cheap Tokina lens: http://www.vimeo.com/900213

Silly of them to make "Private" the default, huh? Anyway, it's fixed now.
