Question about Letus Rails

Hi,

Has anyone modified the Letus MK 1 rails to sit flush with the underneath of the camera, similar to the way the Zacuto rails lay. I have a Sony EX1.

I really don't see the point of the huge space between or am I missing something?

Thanks
Simon

Simon.

That huge space is due to the Letus rails having to cater for a very large variety of cameras, each with their own flavour of tripod mount offset and depth of structure below the optical centre.

You can fit the Extreme with the same rods and support to a much larger CP16 film camera and to the SI2K.

It may look clunky with the EX1 or Z1, however once the support pillars are aligned and locked off, it is going to take a pretty solid clout to shift them.

If you did not want to ever fit up any other camera, you could always trim the pillars off at the bottom so the base sits flat on the ground but that's not for me. You would also not want to take too much off, otherwise the mattebox and follow focus kits would no longer fit properly.
