Human not dead - Computer is.

I shall be off-line for the time being. The computer is cactus after an argument with a HD100 despite all precautions and I have no other except to borrow or visit.

Back again

A salutory lesson on getting everything very, very, right when using a JVC GY-HD100 which has been firmware upgraded to drive the DR-100 disk drive, if intending to capture to a computer, in this instance, mine, a no-name home assembled. The last time I captured with this camera it was fine.

It had since been upgraded for the DR-100 and also had a v-mount battery system fitted.

I did not have the wit to remember to reset the camcorder firewire options which had not been there last time.

Whilst the camera with upgrades might be benign with Adobe certified editing computers, when the camera attempted to handshake with a DR-100, it shut my no-name computer down and it stayed down for the count.

I have managed to get it going again but it is very flakey with frequent stop-errors and sometimes a BIOS message about an overvoltage and clock error. Next step is to try a reset of BIOS to default to see if that fixes things.
