Letus Ultimate, EX3 & Proteus Rails?

Hey All

Hoping someone can help me out with a little bit of advice. We've recently ordered the Ultimate to attach to an EX3 and are looking at rails systems.

Have decided on the Cinevate Proteus rails (Cost/Versatility) but have no idea really how long the rails need to be for this set up??

Cinevate offer three lengths 30,45 & 60cm. Was looking at the 45cm as we'll be doing some shoulder mounted work and don't want them so long that we keep poking people's eyes out, but does anyone know if these will be long enough for the EX3 and Ultimate??

Sorry I realise this is almost a 'how long is a piece of string' question but don't really want to have to order two sets of rails to be sure ( i mean that's money that can be spent on MxR cards! )

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have an ex3 and the proteus rails. (60cm) The dont fit well in any case due to their length, but I think the longer length is needed if your adding a follow focus and say a mattebox. I can email a picture of the ex3 mounted with an elite on the rails if you like.

Hey Chuck if you could flip me a few pics that would be great. When you say they don't fit well, do you mean you find them to be too long to be practical? We will be adding a follow focus, but not so sure about the Matte Box, actually thinking of going down the rubber hood for the lens route instead.

Whatever rig you buy be wary of how well it connects to the EX-3 baseplate, most baseplates are not really secure enough. Consider adding the DM plate or the VFgadgets one before adding a rails system. For a super low profile rig try fitting a rails mount direct to either plate and then using a riser to get the Letus supported. For rails my personal vote at the moment is for the Red rock micro system but I'm sure the Cinevate one works well.
