Where do I find one? -- the rentals thread
Where can I rent the mini 35 adapter for the DVX100 in the Los Angeles area? I have called every house on the zgc website and they either don't carry it, or have sent it back!

The guys from DuAll Camera (NYC) are great. I would definitely recommend them. They will even give you a little training before you take the package home.

Mini 35 Rental in NYC
Question 1: Where in NYC/Northern NJ can you rent a Mini35/DVX100A combination?
Question 2: Do the rentals require 35mm film lens rentals (expensive) or do they use/include 35mm still lens rentals? Or are the 35mm film lens rentals less expensive than I think? Thanks, David |
from what i hear, rental of some film lenses (i.e. cooke) will be around the same cost as the mini35. by itself, mini35 is about $250-400/day? ..depending on where you are, etc.. and this is hearsay, so check for yourself before believing me haha. I would imagine $500/day or $550 would cover 2-3 lenses and a mini35. but, like i said, never believe me hehe.

Adam, have you tried a 12-step program...
|
Check Duall Cameras in NYC..They are really good..
|
I have used a Mini35 system from TCS in NYC for two jobs and had no problems.
Here's a link with the contact info for both TCS and Duall. You don't have to use the most expensive lenses (Cooke S4's), a set of Zeiss speeds will be quite a bit cheaper and still better to work with than still lenses. Be aware that you will need a certain amount of accessories as well: mattebox, follow focus and a head capable of supporting the 20 lb system. The rental house should be able to guide you into a package. Keep in mind that a weekend rental bills as one day, so if you were really on it you could pick up Friday afternoon, shoot half a day, then 2 full days and return on Monday morning for a single day's rental. |
Mini35 Rental Prices
Hello, this is not meant to be an advertisement. I just started a small rental company in Los Angeles geared towards Indie Filmmakers, and we feature the Mini35.
I would love it if those of you who have rented the equipment we rent out would let me know if our prices are in line with other rental houses. We are aiming to be a lower-cost option, but I haven't been able to check with all the rental houses to find out how we stack up. Comments on the prices for any of our items would be appreciated, but specifically the Mini35. Our Website, with pricing is at www.IndieRentals.com Thank you very much. |
Pricing is not bad. Do you rent to the east coast?
|
Hi Eric:
The going rate for the Mini35 in town is $200-250, and a 3-day rental week is pretty standard. I would call Otto Nemenz and Birns & Sawyer to confirm this. Otherwise, I think you've got a pretty good setup going. You may well know this, but there is a renegade title floating on your "other equipment" page--the Varizoom title on what should be the Indie Dolly item. |
Thanks
Thanks for the advice guys - I've revised (lowered) all of the prices on the site across the board. Better way to at least get this company rolling, and I do want to be able to beat the prices of the larger houses and still offer the other advantages listed on the front page of the site.
Anyway - as many comments as people feel like giving about the site, prices, business, etc. I'd appreciate them all. Being a new company I could use advice, and I really want it to be able to successfully cater to the needs of Indie Filmmakers. Thanks for the catch on that title. As for renting on the East Coast, we may be able to arrange that if you were to rent for a week or so. Let me know what you need via email and I'll help you out. Thanks Eric MacIver (rent@indierent.com) |
I tried going to that site, but it keeps bringing up something about a book. There's a banner at the top that talks about indie rentals, but everything else on the page is pitching a book.

Thanks
Thanks - I was just re-uploading the site, and overwrote it with another site I just finished designing (www.theatlantischronicles.com if you care) - www.indierentals.com should work fine now - just hit refresh on your browser if you see any problems.

Eric...I cannot offer advice on prices but do have a silly website comment...you may want to change your links to manufacturer's sites to open in their own window, this way folks easily and quickly get back to your site after reading the manu info.
