mini35 sample footage w. XL1s

Below is a link where you can find a rough "trailer" put together using mini35 test shots from a rehearsal for an upcoming short film where I am the DOP:

Special Notes: No lighting, no color correction, 50mm f1.2 & 28mm f3.5 lenses, XL1s regular mode.

Nice DOF. Smooth motion, too. What did you use for settings on the XL1s?

The writer updated the trailer recently, so I'm not sure if you watched the trailer made using the rehearsal or the newest trailer using actual production footage.

Either way, the footage is shot almost all with f1.2 or f1.4 rates lenses and the settings on the XL1s are 0db, regular mode (meaning not frame mode), manual white balance... nothing else out of the ordinary.

I have recently started using the zebra stripes using the 85 setting. The key really are FAST lenses, but honestly I have used even 35mm to 80mm lenses rated at f3.5 and received great results. A lot of it is in the lighting, just like film. In real life the set looks lit very brightly, but through the lens the light is just eaten away by the optics of the lens. It is easy to create shadows and dark spots whereas with regular video cams you would see detail everywhere - even in dark areas.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
