How do you determine mag. factor of cylinder lens?

Does anyone know how to determine the magnification factor of a cylindrical lens based on dimensions and focal length? All of the suppliers I've visited online only list their cylindrical lenses in these terms and do not indicate magnification. Also, is there a different formula for calculating magnification with a circular lens vs. a rectangular lens? I'm eager to start experimenting but would rather not start off guessing which lens I need.
Any help would be appreciated,
Joe

This may assist:

Be aware of the refractive indices and the combinations of spheric and cyl dimensions producing the toric surfaces - yeah?

Uncle!

OK I have no idea what I'm doing and unfortunately, that article (though fascinating) didn't make much sense to me. I slept through all of my optician theory classes.
I just need someone much smarter than I to tell me which of these cylinder lenses to buy for a X1.33 horizontal squeeze of a 36mm x 26mm (4:3) frame? I'm guessing I want a rectangular 40mm length x 28mm heigth lens but I have no idea what the EFL should be to get the 1.33 squeeze.

I want to use a Plano convex cylinder lens as my condenser between my video camera and my spinning GG in an Agus35. Any help? Thanks,

Joe

Great UNCLE!

Can't you go directly to an optical laboratory and ask what you want from there? Failing that, just pop in to your local, young thinking optician for the same? How about a better placed camera shop?
