cleaning ground glass

HI,

I recently bought a 1500 grit ground glass diffuser from thorlabs.com but it came to me dirty.I have already e-mailed the company and i'm waiting for their reply.
In the meantime does anybody know a way to try cleaning it?

thanks in advance

Danny

Hey Danny,
I guess it depends on what kind of dirt/material is on the glass but any fingerprints or oil that have got onto my homemade gg was easily removed with soap and water. Just do a lot of dabbing instead of scrubbing.

I'm curious how that 1500 grit glass looks, besides the dirt. Have you done any test footage with it to check its grain? The finest AO I could find was 1000 and was thinking of ordering one from Thorlab to see how much difference the extra 500 makes.

Hi Jonny
thank you for your reply.
I got a reply from thorlabs.com also and here it is:

"The ground glass diffuser can be cleaned the same way other optics are cleaned.
Please put a lens care tissue on the dirty surface and add couples of acetone or propanol drops
then carefully clean it by pulling the edges of the tissue."

As soon as i get it cleaned and fix my adapter,i'll work on some footage to post here.

thanks

You should definitely demand a refund or replacement. I can't imagine they would have difficulty with that.

Danny Hatzi November 26th, 2004 07:24 AM

Yes,ask for a replacement is what i will do.
I have to wait 'till monday though, because it's thanksgiving in the US.

So until i get the replacement(if i get it!) i''ll continue to work on the "spining cd Agus35" version, just to be able to test both adapters.

thanks Jonny
