Beattie vs any other focusing screen

Beattie focusing screen or standard focusing screen (Nikon, Pentax, Canon)

Did anyone make some comparison for our DoF things ?

Is someone using standard focusing screen, you can buy as spare part for camera ?

We DID it :)))

As you can see, we are capturing full 36mm, so no waste of DOF efect... Also almost zero vignetting, color aberation, good resolution... Little grain is noticeable, but we are going to solve it...

We are using Nikon focusing screen, in future I'll replace it with Beattie and let you know resume :)))

So happy now :)

There is color aberation, but the camera do this even without any adapter... Do not know why... When shooting movie, aberation is less visible...

My lighting was really dark, but this gives you some idea of brightness and resolution enhancement with the Beattie.

Nice Steev, Thank you...

Steev,

How much can you stop down on the Beattie before you start to see the grain/fresnel start to show?

Dan Diaconu March 3rd, 2005 10:10 AM

Even @ 1.4 you will SEE the grain on the soft/bright areas of the frame:

(nature of the beast)

However, if "what can you get away with" was the question, from 5.6 becomes obvious/annoying (unless the viewers are asleep)

You'll be prone to seeing grain at any time depending on how you shoot. Regarding aperture, it all depends on how much light. This was shot with the aperture almost closed.

A static design is no substitute for a well designed oscillating or spinning device, but you can sure "cheat" with it.
