OT : Macro question

I am trying to get my camera as close to the GG as possible -

1) Do I need to get a higher #'d macro +13+14+15?

2) Does it have more to do with my DV camera than the actual macro filter?

Right now I have a 7+10+ filter on the DV, but I was thinking about trading it in for a 1+2+4+ macro so I have more flexibility in the long run (for other projects). AND I don't want to take this one back until I know that the 10+ macro isn't going to get me closer to the GG.

At +7, I am about 4.5 inches away from the GG - too far in my opinion. Any ideas?

A stronger macro, or combination adding up to a stronger diopter power will let you get closer. In fact, that's really all a macro does. It shortens the focal length so you can bring things closer to the camera - and thus they appear bigger.
