Random Parts

Hey guys,

Ran across some random parts that may be of use to those trying to build a 35mm adapter.

Vibrator from a cell phone:

HUGE lens:

72mm DCX

Backlight Panel (these have an interesting diffusing material....)

Aaron, have you built yourself one yet? I always hear all this talk..

You seem very knowledgable about this stuff?

Aaron Shaw March 14th, 2005 07:51 PM

Yep! Well, I've had several different test versions. I have yet to settle on any one thing yet. There's always something to improve. I constantly go back and forth between what I think is best for an adapter. Some days I think static adapters are the real answer and other days I get sick of trying to look for the perfect grain free material!

Do I? :D. Thanks, though I'm absolutely not as knowledgable as many of the others here! I've dealt with optics before (as in parts) so that isn't entirely new to me at least.

Aaron, do you have any footages or clips you would like to share?
I would appreciate it, thanks!

Re: Random Parts

The HUGE lens is for getting rid of the hotspot, right?
but what is the 72mmDCX lens for? Is that instead of a Macro? What is the backlight panel for?

Aaron, I love the research - I have been looking myself for a few products at Anchor Optics, but this place look like it has some great deals as well.

you could use a lens like the HUGE lens to get rid of a hotspot. However, that one is much too large. Something like 90mm in diameter if I remember! I don't think anyone here needs something that big but I figured I would post it anyway.

The DCX could indeed be used in place of a macro. How it would work out in the end I haven't any clue.

I listed the backlight panel because these types of panels usually incorporate fairly expensive diffusion surfaces so they can get even illumination from a single light source. I thought it may be of some use to those experiementing with diffuse materials.

Steven, yeah I can post some footage. I'll put some up when I have some spare time. I'm on "spring break" at the moment and have been keeping myself fairly busy ;).

What about this one?

It looks good, but I wonder if you are going to burn a hole in something with a condenser like this?!?
