P+S Mini35 and director's viewer history

Does anyone know when these were introduced to market, what year? Is P+S well established solid company? Are the products relable? How about Pro35? When was introduced? Is Movietube higher end product that can be trusted more, is more reliable?

Since the Movietube has not yet been truly introduced to the market and the Mini35 has been around a while (4 years, I think?) and gone through 4 generations, obviously there aren't grounds for comparison in reliability at this point. The Mini35 is a very solid and reliable unit as is the Pro35, fully at home on a high-end shoot (like this one).

Thank you. Someone just told me the Mini was out lot longer than that. Does anyone know how long exactly? Radek

Mini 35 and FX/Z1, XL1/2, DVX, what focal length you set zoom to?

Where you set zoom to with new Sony HDV camera, at what focal length? How about with Canon XL1/2 and Panasonic DVX? Radek

DVX is set fully zoomed in. Not sure about the others.

You might want to compile a list of questions and send them to christine@zgc.com, then repost her answers (with her permission), rather than starting multiple threads with a single question in each.

Hello Radek,

What is importent is to cover the complete image created on the ground glass.
On the XL2 the lens is replaced with a relay designed for the pupose.
With the fixed lens cameras, you need to zoom in until the edge of the ground glass is out of the frame. Make sure the motor of the Mini is running and it may help to set the speed of the motor to the slowest position so you can determine when all the edge motion is out of the frame. That way you can see that on the Panasonic you have to zoom in almost all the way to clear the edges. I suspect that you will have a similar setup with the Sony HDV .

I hope this helps.

The patent was published on 24. October 2002

P+S Technik and their products are really solid and proven. The rental house I'm working at (www.mbf.de), has some oft both of them.

On all cameras, exepting the canon XL-series, you have to zoom totally in - no matter if it is an DVX or an HDR-Z1.

Merged Thread

I have merged the previous threads "P+S Mini35 and director's viewer history" and "Mini 35 and FX/Z1, XL1/2, DVX, what focal length you set zoom to?" into this single one.
