Using SD cards...how much recording time?

I saw at Best Buy (here in Canada) that a SD 1 Gig card was about $80.00, which is pretty good. The question is, I wonder how much that translates to 'time' of recording. Since my camera can record to card in Progressive, I would like very much to be able to have that option - without carrying around my laptop! The SD card would enable me to do that - so does anyone know what the specs are for the SD cards? Would it depend on the camera?

it all depends on what the specs are for your cameras compression recording to the SD card and what format it records... i believe its mpeg usually... find your manual or find it online and read about it. either way, 1 gig isnt alot of video at all.
