CCD Flare

A CCD will flare vertically when there is a bright light in the frame. This is because of the way the CCD signal is off loaded. Some movie camera lenses seem to create a horizontal flare. For example, Phantom of the Opera has blue horizontal flares when bright points are in the shot.

Has anyone tried rotating the CCD 90 degrees? If the CCD flare is horizontal it would look less like video and more like a movie.

That's something interesting to look into...are you suggesting simply shooting sideways, or literally resoldering the ccd?
