SG35 - XL2 initial test footage
 

Just received the SG35 today and gave it a quick roadtest before the sun went down. This was done with the standard 20x lens on the XL2, and a Canon FD f/1.4 50mm lens on the adapter.

My first impressions are that this is a very professional looking and well built adapter. The rail system has been modified by Wayne for the XL-2 to cope with the lens offset from centre of base plate.

The whole system fitted perfectly and was easy to adjust. Focussing is easy as the unit is sturdy (due to the rails).

I'll be conducting some more tests over the next few days and posting more footage.

Superb picture quality! Does the adapter use any kind of condensor?

The SG35 indeed uses a condenser system to prevent vignetting.

SG35 Versus Letus35A
 

I have just done a high contrast test between the SG35 & The letus35A. The XL2 setup was in full manual and didn't change between the two clips, neither did the position of the camera. The same Canon FD f/1.4 50mm lens was used and the lighting setup remained the same.

My first post. Looking to get a 35 adapter.

Footage from Letus35 was shaking and overall GS35 looked better then Letus.... any comments?

The SG35 seems a tiny bit brighter, but has a much smaller FOV. The Letus had a tiny, tiny bit less chromatic aberration, looking at the inside edge of the face of the watch and the edge of the paper on the piano when its in-focus.

Also, I'm not sure how you can say the colors are better on one over the other when looking at footage of a black and white piano :)

And yes, of course I'm going to be biased after spending money on a Letus :) although I've fixed a lot of the inherant problems with the Letus by adding rails, more battery power and a CO macro.

New XL2 Test Video
 

Ok, another test of the SG35 with the XL2. Again, fairly rushed, but contains a mixture of follow focus and pull focus shots and no coffee cups! This time with plenty of colour.


The first few shots (up until the Children) were shot using the f/1.4 canon FD 50mm lens with a preset on the XL2 (because I forgot to turn it off).

The lens used for the other shots was a vivitar 75mm-105mm FD f/3.5.

There is some dodgy camera work as the shots were unscripted and I had to try and follow the action both with focus and an inverted image, something that I will get used to over time.

Nice footage Declan, one thing i like about the xl2 is the colours and image quality. Added with a good 35mm adapter in this case the sg35 you have something great. By the way the camera work was not dodgy.

Declan? - I'm seeing a slight outward radius on the right of the Windows Media Player frame? Anybody else?

This is simply the edge of the 35mm frame, looks as though the XL just needed to be centred up a little more.

How does the FD mount end of the adapter "trip" the canon FD lens plungers to allow the lens's f-stop mechanisms to work?

What Diopter did you use with the XL1/2?

Currently, the FD lens is fixed at it's widest aperture, so the f-stops I quoted were the widest ones. I believe that previous posts on this board suggest methods to engage the mechansism to allow the iris to be adjusted. I use the XL-2 iris to alter the light hitting the CCD's thus keeping the shallowist DOF from the FD lens.

Where can I get one of these adaptors in the UK? How much are they?
