Micro Wax Static Adapter Question

Hello everyone,

I have been researching 35mm adapters and decided to try microcrystalline wax as the gg. I was able to produce a ground glass without air bubbles but the problem is that when I put it together and look through my cameras lcd, the image appears very grainy. Is this due to a too thick layer of wax or maybe uneven cooling? I may be doing something wrong in the process but I am unsure of what.

This is the order of my set up
Tokina f/3.5 lens > wax gg > two 10X macros > step up ring > camera

Thanks for the help,
Trevor

What type of wax are you using?

Did you read the microwax techniques thread?
The problem could also be the F3.5 lens, with such a small aperture the grain will have more contrast and you'll probably have a hotspot too.
Do you see the grain if you look at it with your eyes (no lens in front)?

I had same kind of problems also. I bought 500 grams of wax but managed to produce only one grain free glass wich was unusable because of one air bubble. (http://hasu.kapsi.fi/Mikko/Microwax/)

Now I decided to give up with the DIY adapters and go with Letus or SG35 adapter.

Oscar - yes I read the micro wax techniques thread and I actually used your guide to produce the wax gg and everything seem to look fine until I put it together with the camera. When I look at the gg without the lens there does seem to be a little grain. I will also test the adapter with my new lens when it arrives (Nikon 50mm f/1.4). Hopefully that will help the problem. Thanks for the replies.

I am using microcrystalline wax

If it's still there, could you post a frame grab? A F1.4 lens is what I'm using, so that should be a fair test. Good luck.

As soon as my lens comes Ill post some shots. Thanks for the help.
