...the breath out of you when you see the screenshots! :) Very vivid detail. You're probably wondering how I have this thing when it's supposed to be sold...apparently it doesn't work with a DVX so it was sent back. After buying a step ring and trying it out with my FX1 I've decided to keep it a while longer.

The FX1 is incapable of zooming in completely so I had to enlarge it 15% and rotate it, and because that takes 45 minutes on my computer to process the footage won't be available for a while. However here are three screenshots to feat ye eyes upon, thine colors non-corrected:

but dontcha think the FX-1, fully zoomed in with a small aperture, already has a beautiful depth of field? it's one of the nice features of that camera....slap on a $60 72mm diopter and you get even more amazing macro. seems like when you add the adapter, you sacrifice the sharpness and detail in the foreground which provides such excellent contrast. or maybe i'm missing something?

Well I'm using a 55mm 1.2f lens. The 28mm I can slap on provides a much more stellar example of the shallow depth of field the adapter can provide that the camera can't natively. Also, backing up and zooming in flattens the background. But I do agree, the 1/3" chips do provide some nice DOF, if you want to shoot a film zoomed in all the time.

when you create the shallow DOF by zooming in the camera the depth is crushed. the background is pulled closer and larger to the subject. a diopter set is not very practical for filmmaking
