Lenses for Redrock M2
 

Recently purchased the Redrock M2. I got the Nikon F mount. Was wanting some lens suggestions. Would any Nikon SLR do?

You want fast (low f-stop) manual lens. If you can find f1.2 that is great. The faster the lens typically the better the glass.

Aviod auto focus lenses, some of them don't work at all and others have problems with 35mm adapters.

There are lots of them on e-bay. If you do a search for "Nikon manual lens" you will find lots to choose from.

I prefer prime lenses to zoom lenses, mostly because primes are faster. The lenses I use most are 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. Mostly I use the 50mm and 85mm. The 20mm is great when I need a wide angle and want everything in focus. I use a 105mm every now and then.

I agree and I like those same lens selections.

I'll add that prime vs. zoom depends on your usage. If you are shooting run and gun you'll want to use zooms, minimally something that goes from 24 or 28mm at the wide end, to 70 or 80mm at the long end, F2.8 constant.

My second lens would be a wide angle zoom, like the 20-40mm F2.8 constant, or there are some lenses that cover from 17-35mm for which the apertures start at F2.8 but don't stay constant and end up at F3.5 at the long end of the focal length. I don't see this as a big problem provided you don't make big, fast changes in focal length.

I'd like to experiment with a high quality .7X wide angle adapter that screws onto the front of a zoom lens if there is such a thing. I think that might be a quick, simple solution to get a very fast 17-50mm lens out of a 24-70mm, or 20-60mm out of a 28-80mm, provided the zoom range isn't hampered by the additional element(s) in front.

will ALL Nikon lenses fit this mount. Or any 3rd party lenses.

Every Nikon manual lens I have seen is F mount.
