Any shot anything with an FX1 - using a DOF adapter?

I am looking for some examples of films, docs or shorts shot with the HD Sony FX1 with a DOF adapter on it.

Thanks

Try a search for 35 and fx1 from the menus above.

Here's a link to a search I've done for DVinfo.

Link: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/search.php?searchid=570495

The link is for fx1 with a Letus 35 adapter.

I own a Letus and happy with the purchase. Quyen is great at helping you out with any questions you may have.

Note that the link is only a search on fx1 and letus 35. You will need to modify your search for the other adapter tests.

Thanks, but there wasn't one clip with FX1 and the letus. There was a film-transfer, but nothing else. Checked through all of them...

One of my FX-1 customer's are currently shooting Peter Gabriel's new music video with the SGpro. He will be posting results in time...

Thanks Wayne, I have alot of respect for your product. The stuff looks great.

If you go here :-

http://savefile.com/projects.php?pid=618011

and scroll right down to the very bottom of the web page, the link to a clip is still there. It is a half-aize H264 clip so you will need quicktime or the free downloadable VideoLAN player to be able to view it.

The clip was shot with HDV on the FX1 for DVD "special features" but transcoded from the camera as MiniDV into the NLE for cutting, then recoded to H264 for placement on savefile.

Shot with modifed AGUS35.
( Prism erecting version )
(AO5 spinning groundglass disk)
SLR lens 85mm f1.8 wide open.

Sony FX1. (9db video gain, PAL, shutter 1/50th on-camera mike so bad audio.
Lighting - (production lighting for the production camera, a JVC HD100.)

Lighting consisted of a large theatre spot aimed at the ceiling, two 1000w lowels with filter gels and masks.

This clip has been sent along with other footage on a tape to Maheel Pereira in Sri Lanka who has developed a film-out process and is testing footage from various devices for filmout performance.

David,

Here is a pilot I shot with the FX1 and Letus35flip. We shot this at night with three 1k Lowel lights.

Here is some footage from a short I shot with the FX1 and Letus35flip.

That is all I have on the web. Hope it helps. let me know if you have any questions.

If you do a little searching there is a lot of stuff out there with the FX1 and DoF adapters. Look at the stuff shot by Macgregor at http://www.cinemek.com. That guy has some amazing footage with his FX1e and G35. I think there is some footage on the Red Rock Micro site also.

I wonder how much the interlaced footage hinders the DOF...

I'm hoping to have some FX1/Z1U footage with a SGPro posted soon (like real soon). Right now, I have a short test reel of about 1 minute -- but I was hoping to do more. My next short will be shot with it.

Why would it do that?

David Delaney July 21st, 2006 03:30 PM

Well, I tried deinterlacing and find it makes the footage soft.

BTW Ben, didn't you used to have the Letus? Did you change your mind?

Ben Winter July 21st, 2006 04:23 PM

I did sell my Letus but apparently the focusing screen size/achromat power combination wouldn't allow a DVX to zoom in enough. The same issue arises with an FX1; I'm going to rebuild it and see if I can tweak it to better standards. Then I'll probably work an internal rechargable system into it and try to sell it again.

What did you use to deinterlace? I highly recommend DVFilm Maker as it is a very agile deinterlacer; it keeps very close to all of the resolution.

David Delaney July 21st, 2006 06:01 PM

Ben I would recommend putting a condenser right in front of the camera lens. It has helped me immensely. I am finding that will the RedRock as well, vignetting - not sure why ,but I think the SGpro and the Brevis don't have the vingetting problem...true?

As for deinterlacing, I am using Video Vegas, separate fields etc.

Dustin, the first movie was amazing looking. Very sharp and even when it was dark - it still looked good. Did you get any vignetting with it?

Ben Winter July 21st, 2006 06:18 PM

Actually david the issue was that the focusing screen wasn't big enough--I was using the Beattie for the Contax which I guess crops a little too much. I'm experimenting with thin-film materials which should allow me a bigger projection area.

HI David
I made this post before in other section of this forum, but i think it's a good example for you of a 35mm adapter combined with FX1.
The adapter is M2 from redrock
