HDV, manual focus and iris

whats the cheapest HDV camera with manual focus and iris? I'm thinking of buying a PAL version messing around with static adapters and the like...

Sony HC1 ~ $1,300 @ B&H? Unfortunately, Sony decided to neglect including real f-stop markings, but it is manual as is the focus. I recall seeing a fair amount of posts from members that have the HC1 (or similar A1U) and have built/bought 35mm adapters. On a camera that small you'll need step-up rings and some shims to adjust the vertical alignment to the adapter. Good luck!

*Edit*
Check that - for the PAL model it'll probably run you a few hundred dollars more.

I quess the cheapest HDV cam with full manual controls is the Sanyo HD1 that runs between $600 - $800. That also means that it is the worst HDV camcorder out there regarding image quality, bad in low light and has no filter threads etc. BTW it is NTSC only. One good thing is that this it records progressive frames and 60fps at NTSC resolution.

Uh? Since when is the Sanyo HD1 an HDV camcorder? It records (quite highly/badly compressed) MPEG4 directly onto a flash card!

Only downside of HC1 is that it doesn't have any kind of progressive footage shooting options. MFD=480mm. Correct me if i wrong.

Soeren, have you seen footage from the HD1? It's actually quite impressive...

Frank Hool August 29th, 2006 11:58 PM

Ben, could You point out something? I'm actually interrested.

This is the post which touches a bit the subject. But whole thread seems to contain useful info and footage.
