How much better is nikon compared to canon fd?

From what I read everywhere, nikon is the lens to have. So, I was wondering how much better they are when compared to canon fd. Because i just ordered an M2 with a Canon Fd mount and I still can change...which would imply me to sell my canon fd lenses (18-28mm f3.5, 28mm f2.8, 50mm f1.8, 85mm f18., 28-80mm f3.5, 70-200 f4.5). If these lenses work well with the M2 then I'm set, but if there's a massive difference in quality compared to nikon then I would consider selling them to buy nikons.

Any thoughts & experiences with these lenses?

I would say stick with your FD set. So long as you have managed to enable your manual aperture, I think your set.

I shot with the FX1 and SGpro r2 last week, with my set of FD's:

24mm F2
28mm F1.8
50mm F1.4
85mm F1.8

There are some very good Nikkor models but You can find them from Canon selection as well. Most important thing to consider is vignetting imo. As all other characteristics(chromatic abberration, distortion, etc.) are just very much issues in still photgraphy area, because of much different resolution. All those characteristics for very wide selection of lenses are given here: http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/index.html . And, belive me, You can find very bad lens from both manufacturers. Thatswhy i recommend to do not forget about Sigmas as well.

Nikons aren't better than Canons. There are plenty of Canon lens that outperform similar Nikon lenses. For example, the 10-22mm EF-S.

There are also Nikons that outperfom similar Canons.

In fact,there are Tamrons that outperform Canons, like the Canon 17-40mm.

It all depends on which particular lens you're talking about. But it's ridiculous to think that Nikons are better, or vice versa.

I won't comment on the lenses, because there's great glass in both lines. I do feel though that the Canon FD's have the best non-cinema mount out there. There is no play at all in the lens mount when the breach is locked as the breach itself is threaded. This means when you snug it up, it takes care of any play/wear in the mount. It's also the most complicated/expensive so I can see why Canon stopped using it. Pity.

The PL mount in front of me makes them all look like toys though :-)

Yes, I think I'm going to go with PLs from now on...I'm also going to buy a RED camera...btw, anyone out there looking for a kidney to buy?

Well, if you thought the PL's were nice...the OCT19s are monsters :-) Are you seriously getting the RED?
