High-speed cameras
 

Hi, have someone of you any experiences with high-speed cameras? I found this really interesting, and would like to ask, where should i start. And/if there is some affordable solution... This seems to be not very expensive, but they don't have prices on their web: http://fastecimaging.com

There is a good reason there are no prices---high speed digital cameras are very expensive. I looked at them about a year ago and they are truly neat pieces of equipment and could get you some great shots as in nature shots and such.

I think, at this time, most are sold to research scientists and to industry. Scientists use them to slow the motion of such things as insects in flight and such. Industry uses them to analyze machines that say have a problem that happens to fast too be caught by the human eye. The use of a high speed camera slows the movement down and allows them to see what is happening. In manufacturing, speed of everything and the faster a machine goes, the more very minor things can screw them up.

Keep doing your research and you will find sites that have sample footage posted and you will find it fascinating to watch. I did!

thanks, mike. i saw lots of footage from digital high speed cams past few weeks and thats why i`m interested into this... Do you think, that tere is no chance to get some of that maschines for a good price?

That would depend on what you call a good price! You could probably get a new RED with lens for less than one of these, but do check them out.

I would stick with 25fps shooting:)

Check out the Phantom by Vision Research. They have a HD model that will shoot 1000fps and the Phanton 65 which I think will shoot 1000fps at its highest resolution.

There are cheaper VGA resolution cameras. I thought I saw one at less than $500 but all I can find on the fire-wire camera list is the following:
