Note: This is an Mpeg-4 camcorder that uses the AVC X.264 codec which means it CAN be edited natively in many desktop editing programs (PC & Mac, unlike AVCHD!)

Thanks for posting the footage. It's surprisingly steady for handheld footage, did you set the camera down on something to film? I'm very impressed by the video quality from this little camcorder. You might have me convinced in getting one :)

I read somewhere that the manual controls are lacking on this little guy. Is that true? What kind of manual controls are available?

I had the camcorder on a monopod but it's not too bad handheld- I think 1/2 the shots were handheld.

It has the standard set of manual controls but there's no exposure lock which I find I need for my type of work- but others may not find it a problem at all.
It's not the best in low light but it's actually quite good in decent lighting.

Pretty much everyone that has bought one has been happy with it- and since it's not AVCHD you can edit the files natively in many NLE's!

these videos are re encoded and are no way near HD, not even SD. Take any MPEG4 camera, it delivers MPEG$ movies even better than taht> I MUST have missed something!

If you are referring to Kaushik's videos, once you have registered with Vimeo you can download the original files for any videos (if the uploader allows it). You have probably been watching the streaming video, which is re-compressed and much lower quality than the original files which can be downloaded from the site (even in HD mode). However, Vimeo's HD mode is still "high definition", and higher resolution than what most video sharing websites are capable of streaming.

What kind of big lens is that on the face of that xacti on your page?

You are absolutely right, if you watch them online and see in small size screen the clarity would be fine, if you watch it in full screen then picture does not look good, for online streaming purpose they compressed file, if you like video then you can download original file! Vimeo is far better than YouTube; you can have more storage, widescreen format, and no time limit! You can upload 500MB each week!
