has anyone edit with ex1 footage? i will be getting the ex1 or z7 in a few months and was woundering if edius handles the footage well. seems like fcp is good with it from all of the post on dvi. may have to jump off the edius ship.

My guess is you're referring to Sony PMW-EX1. Well, the XDCAM format is perfectly handled by Edius. I myself recently finished a project that also contained XDCAM shots without any problem. If you're used to working with PCs I wouldn't suggest jumping to a Mac Pro, since you'd have to work on a new environment and that would slow down your workflow. It certainly took me quite some time to get to know FCP and begin to work like on my regular HP workstation.

As for the Z1, again no problem with Edius. It handles 1080i footage like a charm... If you're not a Mac lover I see no reason why you would turn to FCP. Great software, I admit, but not as easy-going as Edius.

I do believe that you will need the 'broadcast' version to edit xdcam. 'Pro' does not provide that capability.

Absolutely correct!
