People should be already postponing their iPhone purchase because of the 3G version that’s coming out. This article gives people another reason to wait if it’s true.

It doesn't look like they will be announcing the 3G phones until the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference June 9 - 13.

The 3G iPhones probably won't be out until July - September.

I can (and likely will) wait. Does anyone know what the average expected increase in browsing speed will be with the 3G network?

It depends on the network where you are... but I've seen demos up to 2x as fast.

It really does depend on where you are. Here in the Raleigh/Durham we have really good 3G coverage. Raleigh was one of the original test markets for the technology. I get great speed on my 3G phone here (LG AX830).

Recently in Las Vegas (also a 3G area) and didn't do as well. The speed was good when it was available but with so many people in town for NAB it really dragged the network performance down. It was still faster than the 1x speeds though.

My friend was surprised with the speed difference between my phone and his iPhone.

Its official, the 3G iPhone will be out next month.

It’s good that you can now get the phone for $200 but AT&T increased the data plan by $10 a month which totals to $240 during the 2 year contract. You end up paying $40 extra when you include the service. You still get a much better iPhone.

Looks like a bit of a gamble for AT&T... http://www.reuters.com/article/marketsNews/idINN0926011020080610?rpc=44

NEW YORK, June 9 (Reuters) - AT&T Inc will suffer lower earnings this year and next year as it plans to subsidize the price of the latest iPhone from Apple Inc in a bet it can help it boost data services and steal customers.

While some analysts applauded the plan, saying it would broaden the market for the high-speed version of the most talked about cell phone in history, others questioned whether AT&T was sacrificing too much for one product.

I'll never buy one. It's WAY too proprietary, you can't install 3rd party applications, and you're stuck with one provider (AT&T).

Uh, the whole keynote was about the new 3rd party apps that are being made for the iphone 2.0. And, in the States, AT&T has the best 3g network...
You should try one out before you say never!
