Sure hope Canon has a heck of a replacement for the 5D lined up to compete with that!

It’s been nearly 9 months since I posted this article and Nikon finally did it. http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=105538

This thing is going to sell extremely well.

Wow, didn't realize it's been 2 years since the 5D has been out.

I think it was October of 2005 that it’s been out so that’s nearly 3 years. It’s much cheaper than the D700 but very old nonetheless so Canon has no choice but to replace it soon.

The D700 should be VERY popular with the wedding/news/freelance market........ I wouldn’t be surprised if the D3X is right around the corner (rumored to be full frame 24mp).

Nikon also announced the SB-900 flash and two new lenses with perspective control. The SB-900 is the world’s first firmware upgradeable flash unit.

Same as the A900 that Sony is going to release.

I was really excited when I heard about the D700...unfortunately I had JUST got my D300 when I heard about it. :-/

The full frame sensor will be nice, but if you have a lot of DX glass, you'll have problems.

The rumored 5D Mark II is said to have a 16MP sensor but I think it’ll be a close call when you’re factoring other things. As far as the A900 is concerned, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of price Sony is going to give it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the D700 has the ability to use DX glass. It simply only takes advantage of the portion of the sensor which is used by the lens.

I'm making that assumption too... that both the D700 and D3 have DX crop modes should mean that you can use DX lenses on them at the standard 1.5x magnification.

Can anyone confirm this?

Edit: Never mind, now I understand...you can use the crop series DX lenses on it, would be the idea. That's something you can't do with a 5D.

I had a D700 and sold it to buy the D3s. I now have both the D3 and D3s. All three of these camera accept DX lenses. They automatically adjust to the lens being used. With a DX lens the file is 6MP instead of 12MP.
