The information sheet implies that using the line-in setting with a mic on a beachtek should provide a stronger signal (louder) but it doesn't do so with my GL2. I'm assuming that's because there is no line-in connection on the GL2, but I don't know exactly what the Line/Mic switch does, electronically to the signal or how one should properly set the beachtek. Currently I just set it to mic which seems to work best with my Azden shotgun. Perhaps somebody could enlighten me on the line/mic setting as it relates to the GL2 specifically.

I didn't put this in "hear me now" because I'm specifically interested in the use of the GL2 and its' lack of a "line-in".

Bud,

The line in switch settings are associated with the level of the signal that you are connecting to the XLR inputs on the box. If you are coming straight off a mic, then mic is the correct setting. If you are feeding a "line level" signal from a wireless receiver or other source, then the line settting is correct. What its actually doing is matching the box and it's output to the two possible input signal levels. A Line in signal level is a much higher level (higher voltage) than a mic on it's own can produce and beyond what the GL2 input would likely handle well so it's attenuated some by the box. Hope this makes sense!

Rob,
Just want to make sure I understood your post. I've been plugging my wireless receiver into a GL2 w/BeachTek adapter with the Mic switch on. I've been receiving audio okay in that channel. Would it be optimal to flip to Line? Are you saying that you should only use Mic when there is a direct mic connection like with a camera mounted mic?
Thanks,
Bob

Unfortunately it's not possible to feed the line in while shooting. That would be very nice !

The line in can only be used to dub an exisiting tape or record from the Analog Video IN.... only when you're in VCR MODE !

It's all about compromise. GL2 is still good even without this feature.
