hello. i have a client asking for a certain effect to make a video look on and damaged. this is the bit they told me to look at (1:40 in):

YouTube - Videograms of a Revolution (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGdn_eABGyA)

does anyone have any suggestions for FCP plugins or techniques that may do this? thanks!

so it appears that a "Bad TV" plugin was added to FCP6...and i'm on FCP5. does anyone know if there is anyway to get the "Bad TV" plugin in FCP5?

Sorry they are not mine they are the work of Greame Nattress, try e-mailing him he may have an idea of how to do this for you.

Try the analog method. Record onto a VHS. Play it back with bad tracking onto DV or directly into FCP.

that's a good idea, but unfortunately, i have to sync up the "bad tracking freakouts" to an audio cue...so i couldn't use an actual VCR.

Do it twice. Once with good tracking, once with bad. Edit the bad tracking on cue.

Can you even get VHS units with tracking control? Seems all the later ones had auto tracking adjustment and took the manual knob away from the end user.

Good point. Many newer VHS decks have the tracking hidden in the remote. Some of the decks I have need to have the automatic tracking turned off in the menu before you can adjust the tracking on your own.
