I'm looking at one or two shoots where I want ( need ) to strip the camera down as much as possible for weight and wind resistance. I want to remove the normal lens and get something wide angle. if it doesn't focus to infinity I could probably live with that. has anyone tried putting a C mount lens on ? even just holding it up in front ? I could make an adapter. it would even be ok if the lens had some vignetting or CA because this is about making a stylized image where such artifacts would be ok.

has anyone tried putting a smaller .5x adapter onto the front of the stock lens ? even if it cuts off a little that would be ok because I'm going to crop the image to a 2:1 ratio for final use.

cheap of course counts within reason. just looking to make an interesting image.

thats cool but I wanted to get really wide. I saw some lenses on ebay that were as wide as 1.7mm :). there was a 2, 2.4, 2.8, 4 and even a 3.8-12mm zoom. most had manual iris. so the flange back for the HD100 is 47mm as I recall, these lenses are a lot shallower, but if I can get focus to 10ft that will work, and if I can have focus at 6" even better.

hasn't anyone tried messing with a piece of glass like this ?

so to answer my own question. No a 1/3 c mount lens won't focus at all. Not even 1" away... But I did get some dust on the front element to come to focus. Bummer. However I did get a .42X converter to work infront of the lens. Using a old lens shad and epoxy to make an adaptor
