View Full Version : new rebel with HD at PMA ? Kurth Bousman February 8th, 2009, 11:03 AM Canon Rumors Canon 500D (http://www.canonrumors.com/category/photography/canon-500d/) Kurth Bousman February 12th, 2009, 10:38 AM rebel rumors get stronger for release next week - this is one of many sites reporting Canon Rebel XRi / 500D Photography Bay | Digital Camera Reviews, News and Resources (http://www.photographybay.com/2009/01/18/canon-rebel-xri-500d/) Kurth Bousman February 17th, 2009, 11:12 AM this is a quote , unknown source at present , from canonrumors “much improved video handling, such as full aperture & ISO control, professional Audio support. variable video recording speed” if this is true , canon will sellout this rebel series Kurth Bousman February 18th, 2009, 09:00 AM canon didn't announce the rebel at pma - maybe this spring - it'll be coming sooner or later - this has got to be the most boring pma in years Curt Fargo February 19th, 2009, 06:44 AM PMA hasn't started yet and yes it will be a bad show as all shows are way down. Something going on with the economy I here. CES's attendance was down by over 33%, talking with other vendors that had a boot there, they said it was scary quiet. Canon already has 1 camera that they can't fill the orders for. In my eyes, bringing out a cheap (less profit) model (like in your dreams/rumors) right now would not be financially smart in this economy. Kurth Bousman February 19th, 2009, 08:57 AM Well Curt - there's about 20 rumor sites posting the specs for the next rebel - maybe canon decided to wait a few months for whatever reasons , but it'll come sooner or later - it ain't "dreaming" - the reason - nikon d90 obviously Curt Fargo February 19th, 2009, 10:33 AM Canon is still making new product announcements in advance of PMA, so this new Rebel may still show up. They just announce 2 new Tilt Shift Lenses, 24mm and 17mm. There were a gazillion rumor sites announcing the Mac Mini for Mac World and it never developed. That is why they call them rumors. I would love to see more D-SLR's being sold and I'm particularly fond of Canon myself. This is just my 2 cents. Tough December for retailers when it comes to digital camera sales (http://pmaforesight.com/2009/02/09/pma-data-watch-tough-december-for-retailers-when-it-comes-to-digital-camera-sales.aspx) Chris Hurd February 20th, 2009, 07:45 AM PMA itself as a trade show has been shrinking long before the current economic crisis. Meanwhile two other photo trade shows U.S. that take place at roughly the same time of year (PPA / Imaging USA and WPPI) right now are stronger and busier than ever before. Updates to the Rebel series traditionally occur in second half of the year, around fall, so it might not be a realistic to expect a new Rebel any earlier than that. Also, there is absolutely no credence to the idea that "20 rumor sites are posting the specs to the next model, so it must be true." What happens is that one rumor site posts specs, and 19 others copy it as if it were gospel. Doesn't matter how many times it's copied or linked to, that still doesn't make it true. And it ain't true until it's officially announced by the manufacturer. Rumor sites might be entertaining for some, but frankly I have better things to do with my time... Curt Fargo February 20th, 2009, 09:52 AM WPPI, Photo Plus and PPA are all end user shows and on a total different scale (much smaller than the big dealer shows like PMA and Photokina). I have no experience with PPA but have had booths at all the others. WPPI being in a much smaller venue (hotel convention centers) has had a waiting list for vendors wanting to have booths as they always sell out early. This is the first year that they didn't sell out and have empty booths. Photo plus was just a couple of months ago and had MANY booths empty. There were also many booths that had sold where the vendor just didn't show up. The month before that was the largest photo show in the world, Photokina. Manufacturers like Canon & Nikon in the past use to have complete hall to themselves now they might have occupied 1/4 of a hall. Times are a changing! Daniel Browning February 20th, 2009, 10:36 AM The rumor sites are all abuzz with new information from an Industry Insider. Apparently, a Mr. "C" Hurd (obviously a pseudonym) is expecting a new Rebel XT very soon. He was quoted as saying that the new Rebel Xzy "might be entertaining for some", but he was too busy shooting with it to comment further. Kurth Bousman February 20th, 2009, 03:19 PM well , it looks like he wasn't "that" busy ! Really, internet rumors about cameras and computers esp. have been right about 50% in terms of dates and about 75% in terms of specs , which is pretty good . And the Rebel upgrade well be important in the evolution of the video dslr . So I thought it interesting enough to comment , and there were various sources , not just one passing the hat , so to speak. It's not any different commenting on a new Rebel with video option , that everyone knows will be announced , only being a matter of time , and the coming Pany G1 HD , which has already been announced and is in the pipeline , but we don't know for sure when . Anyway , these two cameras , and possibly the m43 Olympus will be very interesting new toys for the photographer/videographer and , for me , seem alot more interesting than the next 1/4 inch sensor consumercams /k Daniel Browning February 20th, 2009, 03:35 PM Really, internet rumors about cameras and computers esp. have been right about 50% in terms of dates and about 75% in terms of specs , which is pretty good . Not even close. Even when it's painfully obvious what features will be in the next cameras the rumor sites will still manage to get it wrong. The hour hand of a dead clock is right 8.3% of the time. That's about how often the rumor sites are right. Kurth Bousman February 20th, 2009, 03:41 PM well Daniel , let's stage a test - see my new post on the new nikon 5000 Heath McKnight March 4th, 2009, 02:15 PM No new DSLRs from Canon at PMA 2009. Only Olympus and Panasonic had DSLRs, no Nikon D5000s, Canon Rebels, etc. Canon, I didn't expect to see anything, but Nikon? That's a little unusual. Then again, the D40 was announced August 2006, and they announced other DSLRs around that time, too. D3, I think, and D300?? D60 was announced at PMA 2008, D40x: PMA 2007. Heath Kurth Bousman March 4th, 2009, 09:26 PM Apparently the d40 has been discontinued and the rebel is now "rumored" for June - it's only a matter of time - I'm sure sometime this year , we will see the d5000 and 500d - whether the d5000 will have video is uncertain . But the 500d rebel will for sure . Everyone's probably waiting to see how much dust the gh1 kicks up . Or maybe they're designing new silent kit lenses ! The big question is when are they going to put aps sensors in z1 bodies ? Heath McKnight March 4th, 2009, 09:46 PM My guess is August we'll see announcements. heath Heath McKnight March 4th, 2009, 09:48 PM Unless companies follow Apple's lead, and start just staging their own mini-shows. heath Kurth Bousman March 11th, 2009, 10:38 PM rebel announcement rumors firming up for a march 25th date Electronista | Canon to launch new Rebel March 25th? (http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/03/11/canon.march.25th.event/) Chris Hurd March 11th, 2009, 11:43 PM This one could have some credence -- it's coming from a far more credible source than these ridiculous *rumors.com sites. Kurth Bousman March 12th, 2009, 09:43 AM Chris - actually this rumor first originated a day before on canonrumors . Most good rumor sites have credibility ratings and credible sources . I don't see them as ridiculous at all . It's like a advanced warning system . Sometimes the volcano blows , but not always . I hear because of global warming , there's a rumor that central texas will become the sahara in about 20 years , and since my bro is a prof at texas st , he's keeping me informed ! Be prepared ! cheers/k Heath McKnight March 14th, 2009, 06:24 AM I've been hearing similar dates for Nikon, too. Can't wait to see what happens! Heath Kurth Bousman March 14th, 2009, 12:57 PM photo of the new 500d (FT 4) New Canon 500D is coming! A GH1 competitor? (http://43rumors.com/2009/03/ft-4-new-canon-500d-is-coming-a-gh1-competitor/) Heath McKnight March 14th, 2009, 01:15 PM Looks like a photoshop job to me. 50D meets G1. heath Chris Hurd March 14th, 2009, 01:30 PM Ha! What a joke -- that's classic, and good for a laugh, but seriously, I'm *this* close to outlawing these nonsense "rumors" domains from Area 51. They're too much, and not enough, all at the same time. (Great job there, "Luke," whoever you are!) Kurth Bousman March 14th, 2009, 01:46 PM Do you think that someone will think this is real ? It's supposed to be a joke . It was a joke on the original rumor site . Part of life is joking about itself , and guessing what's coming next . I thought that was the point of "area 51" , or maybe we should be youtubing flying saucer videos ? Heath McKnight March 14th, 2009, 01:56 PM I get what Chris is talking about--sometimes it's just too much. But it always is fun to see this stuff. heath Kurth Bousman March 18th, 2009, 10:34 AM march 25th New Canon 500D (Digital Rebel) coming on March 25 - 1001 Noisy Cameras (http://www.1001noisycameras.com/2009/03/new-canon-500d-digital-rebel-coming-on-march-25.html) Heath McKnight March 18th, 2009, 10:35 AM I'd be surprised to see something from Canon or Nikon before August/September. heath Curt Fargo March 18th, 2009, 10:41 AM CES PMA and Photokina are the times manufacturers normally shoot to bring out new items for. Canon introduced many new items at CES that are still not shipping. With CES and PMA in our so recent past, I wouldn't put money on a new product being released March 25th. I could be wrong as I have no inside source. Kurth Bousman March 24th, 2009, 10:36 AM Zoom Online - Canon pressemøde LIVE i morgen (http://zoomonline.dk/index.php/news/show/id=1133) Monday Isa March 24th, 2009, 05:51 PM Zoom Online - Canon pressemøde LIVE i morgen (http://zoomonline.dk/index.php/news/show/id=1133) Cnet TV apparently had a video up about the rebel t1i but has taken it down. So far it will have 720 30p and 1080 20p video. We will now more about it tomorrow. Can't wait. Canon EOS Rebel T1i - Truveo Video Search (http://uk.truveo.com/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T1i/id/2750755231#) Paulo Teixeira March 24th, 2009, 07:59 PM If that camera really is coming out tomorrow, you can expect to see it around midnight. At least that's the case with a few other announcements in the past. Curt Fargo March 24th, 2009, 08:07 PM I would love to be proven wrong on this as I do like Canon. Monday Isa March 24th, 2009, 08:09 PM 2 hours remaining to see if your right or wrong. Kurth Bousman March 24th, 2009, 08:24 PM ...but what is this 1080/20p ?? OK - I'll still buy it if it has an articulating lcd and 720/30p , but I really wish Canon wouldn't cripple this camera . I guess they will have to save something for the 60d ? Something to wake up to for tomorrow ! Monday Isa March 24th, 2009, 08:30 PM That is what was heard from the person who heard it from the Cnet tv podcast. There's a chance it is a typo on his part or Canon could seriously be thinking of making available 1080 20P. We will know for sure in a hour and a half. Just the fact that this camera will be under $900 and offer HD video is what I'm excited about. I don't want the 5D because of the high cost, but this camera I don't mind.
