i'm filming with the ex1, and i want to convert my images with the mainconcept conversion pack2 to xdcam hd 422, and then record them via the pdw u1.
so mi client can read them with their PDW-HD1500 XDCAM HD Deck.
is this posible with the PDW U1?

This is very possible. With XDCAM Transfer 2.9 and Clip Browser 2.5 (with the MainConcept Plugin). You'll be able to drag EX Clips directly onto the disc. There is a little bit of a problem though.. the 35mb EX Clips are converted to 35mb XDCAM HD clips which are subsampled (1440x1080). So there is a bit of a quality loss.

Anyway you can drag these clips over to the disc within Clip Browser 2.5 and the disc will be readable in a PDW-HD1500. I tried it the other day onto a XDCAM 422 disc and had no problems playing it back.

I had a second thought..

If you had just a couple clips and FCP you could skip the whole MainConcept Plugin.

Just import the clip into FCP and put it on a XDCAM 422 sequence. Then choose Export -> XDCAM. You will need to render out the timeline but it will also go directly to the disk. The benefit to this is you don't convert to XDCAM HD 4:2:0 (which is subsampled) but convert to XDCAM 422 which is higher quality.

You could do this for all your clips, but it'll take longer then the whole EX Clip Browser route.

Same with AVID (version 3.5), import your EX clips into AVID 1080i HD project bin. Select all clips and use the "Export to XDCAM device" function, and chose XDCAM HD 50. The advantage over FCP is that you will retain the clip structure and not end up with one single file.

Attention:

If you do it within an NLE you will probably loose original Timecode Information (generates from timeline), Metadata and (if you dont set up correctly) multichannel audio.

Converting in ClipBrowser 2.5 to "XDCAM HD422" will (afaik) maintain everything (at least timecode + multichannel audio, dont know exactly about metadata).
