I spoke to someone at our local dealer yesterday who said the upgrade will be software based. Originally we were told June 9 would be the release date. Now its not so certain. We were also told the installation is done by Sony.

Does anyone have any other news on this?

The 24P update for the 700 is due late June. This is what we were told at NAB. The camera will have to go back to Sony because some units require an updated PC board before the firmware can be updated. This also the same time that the FREE firmware upgrade to version 1.5 is due and it adds a lot of nice features to the 700 that I already referenced in an earlier thread.

The camera firmware update keeps getting pushed back. One of the reasons is that V1.5 adds additional features to the file system on the disc. Sony are keen to ensure that the majority of decks get V1.5 before it gets installed on the cameras as discs shot on a camera with V1.5 won't play back on a deck with and earlier firmware version. It would be embarrassing to go on a shoot on a camera with V1.5 only to find that the production companies decks can't play back the discs.
