I guess my question how far away is the next generation apple? Any ideas? Last time I got my G4 powermac the G5 came out a few months later so I don't want to repeat that mistake.

Thanks in advance

man. They just introduced these. If you're concerned don't buy a NEW mac. Watch the store's clearance link at apple.com and buy the previous gen dual 2gig G5 as soon as they lower the price to $2100 or $1999...

Try mac rumors sites like macrumors.com

2- If the new G5s just came out then you'd think the next ones will take a few months to come out.

3- New computers are always coming out. If you need a Mac now then get one, don't wait.

I would say you've got 6 to 12 months before a new G5 model will appear. The older 2GHz duals are already $1999 in Apple's Clearance section.

man been looking at the first on the list WAITING for it to drop... lower on the list sure enough $1999.... ALL MINE BABY! Any differences between the old one and the new one? Aside from the water cooling?

Found out that there are no differences between the new G5 and the old G5... the 2.5 is water cooled... NOT the dual 2... except for a better video card they're identical...?

If you have any concerns wait until after Apple's WWDC at the end of the month. Given that the new 2.5s were just announced I doubt there will be anything announced but you never know. The persistent rumors I see now are over updates to the monitors not the CPUs.

Apple is not the only one using liquid cooling. I saw an ad yesterday for a new Sony computer that is also liquid cooled.

There is talk of new Cinema Displays. A 30 inch model is being talked about. Water cooling has been available for several years on some PC's.

I'd say get one of those first gen dual 2.0 Ghz.

And there is a difference between the first gen and the new 2nd gens.

I'm pretty sure this applies to the dual 1.8 and dual 2.0

80GB HD instead of 160GB
256MB Memory instead of 512MB
Up to 4GB of Memory instead of 8GB
PCI slots instead of PCI-X slots

So you can see that now the "entry" level G5's have been stripped down a bit.

Yes and the mid-model 2.0 no longer has the ATI card but instead the Nvidia
