Anyone good with lights?

I have a GL2 and I am shooting indoors with 2 light stands each with 2 500w halogen lights. I then use premiere to capture the video and it is coming in very grey and washed out.

Its a single person at a podeum with a white wall behind them.

I want saturated colors and white to be white. I used the indoor lighting WB setting and opened the lens all the way f 1.0 I think

Anyone have any suggestions?

You don't say at what distance the lamps are from the subject, - just that you are indoors. If it's in an ordinary room, then I would have thought that you were probably overexposing the shot. f1 (f1.2?) seems to be way too open for your lamps. Have you tried zooming into a face, then setting the exposure?
I know that you say you have white walls,so after you zoom back out to your shot size, you might need to lower the expose a tad to compensate for all that whiteness.

What kind of lights are they?
Open face or fresnel?

Do you have any grip gear?
Bounce card/foamcore? Ceiling scissors/ceiling mounts with stubs on them?

Are there any windows in the room (hope not).

How much room do you have between the speaker and the camera?
How much room from the speaker to the back wall?

Max aperture on the GL2 is f/1.6 but if fuly zoomed it is more like f/2.9.

How does it look played directly from the camcorder (not the Premiere preview screen)?

Did you use auto exposure? If manual, what was your exposure (you should be able to read it from the data encoded on the tape).

1000 watts sounds like a lot of light for all but very distant lights in a large venue if you used a wide open aperture.

It reads to me like he had 2000 watts of light. Perhaps a bit much for the size of venue he was in. We need more details though.
